Helping Your Loved One Stay Home — With the Support They Actually Need

For most families, the goal isn’t a nursing home. It’s keeping Mom in the comfort of her own home. It’s making sure Dad can get dressed and maintain his dignity. It’s finding someone you trust enough to let into your home, day after day, who will treat your loved one the way you would — if you could be there all the time.

At WeCare, we constantly strive to refer personal care services and raise the standards of personal home care. That commitment is reflected in every caregiver on our registry.

Since 1995, WeCare has been helping Maryland families navigate one of the most personal decisions they’ll ever make: who cares for the people they love most. Our founder, Geraldine E. Diggs, built this agency on the belief that caregiving is a calling — not just a job — and that standard is reflected in every caregiver on our registry.

Personal Care That Matches Real Life

No two clients have the same needs, and no two days look exactly alike. Our personal care services are designed to flex  around your loved one’s life — not the other way around. Whether your family needs a few hours of support each day or around-the-clock presence, WeCare’s caregivers show up prepared, vetted, and genuinely invested in the person in their care.

Personal Grooming:

Ensuring client comfortability and self is foundational to everything we do. Our caregivers assist with:

  • AM and PM bathing and skin care
  • Oral care
  • Dressing and accessorizing
  • Hair and nail care
  • Personal hygiene and incontinence care
  • Shaving and make-up application

These aren’t just tasks — they are the daily rituals that help someone feel like themselves. Our caregivers approach each one with patience and respect.

Nutrition & Basic Needs

Proper nutrition and hydration are often the first things to slip when a loved one is managing health challenges alone. Our caregivers help maintain these basics:

  • Meal and snack preparation tailored to dietary needs and preferences
  • Assistance with feeding when needed
  • Hydration and fluid maintenance monitoring

Light Housekeeping

A safe, clean home environment directly affects health and well-being. Our caregivers keep the living space functioning:

  • Kitchen and dish cleaning
  • Laundry and linen changes
  • Trash removal
  • Other light housekeeping services as defined by the care plan

Mobility & Physical Function

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults. Our caregivers are trained to assist safely with movement and positioning — protecting your loved one’s physical safety while supporting their independence:

  • Ambulating (supervised walking and movement)
  • Hoyer lift assistance and management
  • Range of motion and exercises
  • Repositioning and body alignment
  • Transfers to and from chair
  • Leg elevation assistance and management
  • Wheelchair sitting exercises
  • Colostomy and catheter bag care
  • Compression stocking application and management
  • Medication assistance with pre-filled medication boxes
  • Vital signs monitoring
  • Oxygen tanks and related equipment

Companionship & Life Outside the Home

Isolation is a real health risk — and it is one our caregivers actively work against. WeCare’s personal care services include support for a full life:

  • Accompaniment to medical and dental appointments
  • Transportation to physical therapy and exercise classes
  • Errands and shopping
  • Escort to social events and appointments
  • Mental stimulation: reading, crafts, movies, and games
  • Vacation and travel accompaniment

That last point — vacation and travel — is one people are often surprised by. A chronic health condition or mobility limitation should not mean the end of a meaningful life. Our caregivers have traveled alongside clients to help make those experiences possible

Why the Person Providing Care Matters As Much As the Care Itself

Personal care is intimate by nature. The caregiver in your loved one’s home will know their routines, their preferences, good days and hard days. That relationship matters enormously — and WeCare takes it seriously.

Every caregiver on our registry is certified through the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON). But beyond credentials, what distinguishes a WeCare caregiver is the standard Geraldine E. Diggs established from day one: people who understand that showing up for someone, day after day, with patience and genuine care — is not easy work, and not everyone is built for it. WeCare actively selects for those who are.

WeCare is licensed as a Residential Service Agency by the Maryland Department of Health, Office of Healthcare Quality (RSA License #R921 | NRSA License #070901. We are independently owned and operated — which means our standards are our own, set by a nurse who has been in the room and knows what care should look like.
